A lot has happened since then, some good, some not so good. They suffered the loss of Lucas's parents and their close friend Randy, both of which made their relationship stronger as they leaned on each other for emotional support and comfort. Shortly after that less than joyous Christmas, the repairs to the boat were finally finished and it returned to its slip, much to the joy of Lucas and the relief of Paul. Naturally the two christened the return with a night of non-stop sexual play, being so tired, they both took the next day off. Which of course led to more wild sex. Victor had gone further than just repair the hole in the hull. He had his workmen totally refinish the boat from top to bottom, new hardware and accessories, new paint and varnish and new sails. The boat looked just as it did the day of its maiden launch from the shipyard that built her. It came in only slightly over budget, although Paul argued Victor was owed more. Lucas, ever the flamboyant one, wanted to come up with a thank you for Victor and his team of craftsman. He made some calls and made arrangements with Gary to have a huge pig roast barbecue catered in the parking lot of the marina for Victor and his crew. He cleared it with Victor and planned a day for the party. A bus was sent over to pick up the crew and bring them to the marina. Lucas also made it open to any of the boat owners in the marina and their families making it a fantastic celebration of the return of "This is Us". Meanwhile, the lawyers were fighting over the will and Randy's purchase agreement. A developer wanted to buy the property and was pushing for a resolution so he could buy it or move on. He was offering a premium price. The lawyer explained to Paul that it was going to be a lengthy battle and their odds of winning in court were slim if the cousin pressed her claim. He offered a compromise where the marine would be sold and the proceeds would be split 50/50 along the lines of the purchase agreement. Everyone came out with something but no one got everything they wanted. It was what the lawyer called the best possible solution. Lucas wasn't on board at first but then faced the fact that the marina wouldn't be the same without Randy. He and Paul would be stuck running the marina year round and couldn't go south for the winters. He grudgingly agreed. The only stipulation was the condo development had to be named "Ruby's Village" and the dock area had to be named "Randy's Dockside", both with elegant signage. For extra measure, the lawyer made them add underneath "Randy's Dockside" the words "Home of the late Bart Benson". The deal was made and Paul and Lucas's half netted them almost $8 million, after the lawyer took his generous fee. Lucas and Paul were back to sailing every chance they got, naked sailing as often as possible. They took Irving and Marilyn out on several trips, clothed of course, and although Irving enjoyed it, Marilyn wasn't too keen on being on the open water. The project Paul and Irving were working on was a huge success. The company was swimming in cash so Mr. Bishop gave generous bonuses to everyone who worked on the project. He had sued over the cancellation of his contract with the windmill project up north and won big. He made the decision to retire and spend time with his family. He explained that Pail had taught him that the people you love are more important than work. He wanted to share his good fortune with the people who made it possible so he gave huge severance pay outs to everyone. Irving and Paul approached Mr. Bishop about buying the business. He explained it was his business that he started and he was going to close it when he retired. He told them he would finance them if they wanted to start their own business and offered all the contacts and patents his business had accumulated over the years. "If you want to be in business for yourself, put your name on the side of the building, not mine." Irving decided to follow his bosses lead and retire. He and Marilyn moved across the country to live closer to their children. Paul and several of the engineers he worked with took Mr. Bishop's advice and started their own business. Although Paul was the majority shareholder, he explained he would only be working part time. He enjoyed the work but also enjoyed sailing with Lucas. With Paul's inheritance and the money from the sale of the marina, money was never going to be a worry for them going forward. A year had passed and Lucas was getting board. He had enough hours sailing that applying for his captain's license was a sure thing. But that didn't change much in his life. Then he thought he'd get his commercial captain's license and take people out on charter sailing trips. Paul wasn't too keen on having a bunch of strangers roaming all over their 'home' so he nixed that idea. Lucas took the initiative to call Victor and ask if he knew of any boats that might be for sale that would be suitable for his idea. As it turns out, Victor had a boat that had been sent to him from a company in Jamaica that was used for just such a purpose. It had come to him to have one of the masts replaced. The work was expensive and when it was done the company refused to pay the bill. He got in touch with a Jamaican court and had a lien put on the boat, both there and in the US. Shortly thereafter, the company went bankrupt and Victor was stuck with the boat. Lucas called Paul at work and made him take the afternoon off to go look at the boat. Lucas felt it was perfect for what he had I mind. Day cruises and short-term overnight cruises, catering to corporate clients and the general public. He negotiated with Victor and they came up with a price they could both be comfortable with. Meanwhile, back up north, Mike and Dwayne were still out patrolling the waters around Cape Cod. They were still going out on their days off, cruising around looking for someone in trouble. One bright sunny afternoon they spotted smoke and say that a large pleasure craft was on fire. They sped up to the boat just as the flames were about to totally engulf the vessel. They were able to get everyone off the burning boat safely and onto their boat before anyone was injured or burned. As they pulled away to get clear, there was a loud explosion and the boat sunk beneath the waves. It turns out there was a high ranking US Senator and the Director of Homeland Security along with some other local politicians on board. When the Director found out that Mike and Dwayne were both Coast Guard men, he told them he would like to repay them any way he could. Mike just replied, all in a day's work, even though they technically not working that day. Mike moved up the ranks and a few years later he called in that favor. He had Dwayne and he transferred to a Florida base close to Paul and Lucas where he was appointed base commander. Dwayne decided not to reenlist when his hitch was up and ended up working for Lucas on his charter boat. Todd had made friends with a guy he liked in high school. He implored Lucas to engage in sex with him so he would know what to do if it ever got to that point with his new friend. Lucas gave him advice but told him if would be better to explore these things with his friend. Lucas was right. Todd and his friend became close, experimenting and enjoying their newfound sexploits together. After they graduated they attended the same college and were roommates for their freshman year. By the second year they drifted apart, finding new friends and new avenues to explore. They stayed fast friends and still keep in touch. Todd came back home and also joined Lucas's crew on the charter boat. By this time, Lucas was doing very well. He had charters booked almost non-stop. Paul would accompany him on some and Dwayne and Todd had become regulars on his crew. As well as the corporate clients and the tourist crowd, Lucas also offered exclusive gay or lesbian cruises. Todd and Dwayne would wear a bow tie collar and a vest open in the front but nothing else. The guests were all encouraged to be naked as well. Other than applying sunscreen, however, neither Dwayne nor Todd were allowed any sexual interaction with the guests. Paul and Lucas would invite Dwayne, Todd and Mike to go sailing on "This is Us" just like the old days. Mike had made friends with a local guy and he would join the group. Again, the excuse of applying sunscreen led to some very interesting trips for all six involved. Despite some major changes in their lives, some deaths, the loss of the marina and relocating south permanently, Paul and Lucas had managed to stay in love with each other and make a happy life together, just as Paul always promised would happen. To my readers: Thank you for joining me on this journey with Paul and Lucas. I hoped you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I know some of you may have wanted me to continue the story but I felt once Paul and Lucas had settled in Florida it was time to leave them so they could lead their lives quietly and enjoy what they had built together.
