Date: Thu, 12 Nov 2020 22:03:00 +0000 (UTC) From: Mike Simmons Subject: It was ways bout the bets 190 At the office I went right to my desk, said hello to Ruth and closed the door. I looked at the shit on my desk and quickly reviewed the two documents. I easily signed off on the CFO compensation package and would deal with the other one on Monday. I called Riley and asked for her to stop by when she had time to talk about the event tomorrow as the NASA Director would be there. I just sat there thinking and then got up and told Ruth that I would be in Dr. Williams office and to let me know when Riley was there. Ruth asked if I was ok and I said well dad has us all upside down, she laughed and I went looking for Kyle. He was in his office and I knocked on the door jam. He looked up saying, just let me have a few details, I'm swamped. We talked for half an hour and he said well that's perfect, you will have it all set in a month and I'll worry about that then. I asked, so Kyle do you need more help? He said yes. I thought for a minute and said, I'll free Jack up as he could be more involved. Mike, actually that would be perfect because there are system issues out there. Nothing he can fix or has caused. It's an old system we inherited and he brought it to our attention, I need to free up some people to fix that. He said, I'll see you tomorrow as I want to meet that NASA guy. I went back to my office and found Riley sitting at my desk on the phone. I laughed and asked if she was comfortable. She looked up and said, oh sorry it turned out to be a longer call than I expected. Riley, I was kidding, it's fine. Then she asked, so how are you and Jack? I said, actually I'm good but he hasn't figured that out yet. She said, that's perfect. I was then handed an itinerary for the event tomorrow. I saw there was a space for the Admiral and comments. I was told that it was a taped non press thing and they would edit it to suit their needs. I said don't bet on no press. Things seemed under control and I said thanks and I'll be in early tomorrow. I checked my calendar and saw that it was updated and there was nothing that needed changed. I said good night to Ruth and drove home. At home I found that I was alone and opened the refrigerator and fuck, there was pulled pork and a giant salad. I looked around and damn the place was clean. I heated the pork and made a sandwich, dumped some Italian dressing on a salad and poured an iced tea and grabbed the paper. I finished eating and cleaned the kitchen, grabbed my bags and went to what was a very clean room and new sheets. I looked at the suits from the trip and they were a wrinkled mess so I threw them on the closet floor and laid out clothes for tomorrow. I called Beth and we talked about the trip and the launch and her couple of days. She said that she actually went to Virginia and met some future teammates. She said Wes want to know if there was any chance we could play Latrobe. I said that actually sounds good as I need to get up there. Then I said, I have a bitchy day tomorrow, a couple of interviews and the damn NASA Admiral. Then I had to study for the flying test and flight. Saturday morning will be a written and flight test. Then I would like you and I have a very nice upscale dinner and then see what happens. Mike, that sounds like fun, unless you fail the tests. When I finished laughing, I managed to say well you can bet your sweet ass that will not happen. Babe, I have never failed a test in anything, not even close. Then she said well the best part is what might happen after. Beth, let's see how the evening goes. I'm thinking about dinner at Oakmont. With that I changed the topic to her University. She seemed excited about all that and I was glad that it wasn't VT. I hung up thinking, fuck we should just get a room. I reviewed the material for the test for about an hour and was interrupted when my phone went off. It was Jack and he started with, so how much trouble am I in? I laughed and said none, just be careful when you leave me out of the loop. I know you are kissing ass to somehow manage a shuttle ride. He laughed and said, nah that won't happen, but I just wanted to check in and I'll see you tomorrow. I hung up and went down to the kitchen, grabbed a beer and returned to my room. I decided to think about the will. That was easy if I died before dad, he would get everything back but I would ask that building two be sold and that the proceeds be evenly split between, The Major's, JJ, Sean, Riley, Dillon, Tim and Kyle. Ray would get my car. Cole would get Enterprises and thus building one. Then I decide that this would need a yearly review. Finally The Foundation would remain and Megan, Cole and Tim, would be administrators. However, they would be unable to modify the caddy scholarships or the startups. I wanted to make sure that some of the vision survived. Then I took a few minutes and wrote all this down and hopefully eliminate a long discussion. Tim could asked about anything and let me know if I forgot anything. I looked over the written list and was pleased. At this point I was exhausted and set the alarm and jumped into bed. It was a great day and JJ, Ray and I had a great run with JJ asking if we could all hang out tonight. I said that sounded like fun but I had a big early day on Saturday with a flight test and an exam, therefore I would not be drinking? I said look guys, I need to do this but if it all works out we could fly to Nemacolin and play golf on Sunday. They both looked at me, shook their heads and said, South Hills will be fine. In the house, I put coffee on, showered and shaved and dressed in a blazer and tie, packed more casual clothes and also workout clothes. I found dad in the kitchen drinking coffee and reading the paper. I reminded him about the days schedule and that the Admiral would be there. With all that done I drove to the office an my desk was organized and there was nothing that required my immediate attention. I was going over possible interview responses and was tired of the same answers to various people and was struggling for a new approach when Wayne stuck his head in and I said have a seat, what's up? He asked about the trip wondering if it was actual work or simply a PR thing and the launch. I said well it was a day of business and a launch with a couple of meetings and getting out of there as soon as possible. The added complication is the the Director will be here today and we need space for about 50 people and room to develop, assemble and try out a rover. Somewhere near the CMU campus would be ideal. So do you have any ideas off the top of your head? Mike, none that I'm ready to talk about. I said, fair enough but let me know, I'm trying to push this off till January. He said that he would start on the right away and asked for a place to park his ass? I said please ask Ruth as she deal with that but I assume we can unlock Mason's old office. I asked if he was going to the event and he said, absolutely I need to see both places. He said, well I'll see you later and went to talk with Ruth. I was still struggling with the approach, tone and message and decided to simply leave for the building. At the building I took my special hard hat out of the trunk and went to the construction trailer. I laughed when Allen had the same hat on and he said, well I'm glad you got the memo, as everyone has their hats on as well. Just expect a mob at the furniture site. I laughed and said well that is always fun. I decided to look at the building and went inside and saw a closed off area and assumed it was the furniture for the photo shoot. I walked up to the 4th floor and headed for what would be dad's office. It was an absolutely fantastic view and you could look right down the river. As I turned to leave Jack and the Admiral appeared and Jack said so you are checking out your new office? I said well this is dad's office, I'm in the other building. The Admiral said that from what he saw the building was outstanding and that we should provide the specs for the NASA sign and that they would provide it. I said well it will be in the other corned and in a place that won't disrupt the view. As I walked around almost every worker said hi or waved from the distance. My next stop was building 2, there was activity there as the footer was being set in preparation for the steel. Other than that it was a mud hole but it was underway. I started back to the demo area and saw the architects getting out of the car and Carrie was with them. Fuck, I forgot about that but I stopped and asked how everyone was and we walked together to the building. Carrie didn't say much and was pleasant enough. I saw dad talking with Major Jim and the and the Herman Miller people and Bruce from the furniture dealership. I went over and we were chatting and I saw Jack and the Admiral and waved them over and made introductions. While all this was going on there were tons of pictured being taking of the outside of the building. I saw Jodie, Jordan and Carrie approaching as they finished the tour of the building. All of a sudden I noticed a wave of Burgundy and orange hats approaching and I just started to laugh. I looked at Bruce and asked if he was ready to get his show underway. There were a lot more people there than I thought and it was a very good thing that someone thought about a sound system. Bruce, introduced himself as the Vice President of Office Pavilion, the local Herman Miller dealership in Pittsburgh. He very quickly reviewed his relation with the two MJS companies and turned the event over to the the Herman Miller people, a Vice President of marketing and the ETHOSPACE project manager. We were told that there were 5 typical workstations, or to be more precise work areas. One by one Bruce uncovered each station and I was totally awe struck and I was already rethinking the interior wanting it more open to reflect what I was seeing. The 6" panel width and the tiles and then the lack of tiles were perfect. I could not have been happier. The colors were examples for each floor and I had to admit Carrie did an great job. I was brought back to the here and now when the Herman Miller Vice President started to introduce me. According to him I was a young entrepreneur with a vision and work ethic of people twice my age. Immediately with the mention of my name the place went nuts with applause, cheers and hoots. I waited about 10 seconds and sat thank you, thank you and simply started talking. With a big smile I said it is great to see that the most important people in this whole project are here and that they are still happy. We are months ahead of schedule and their work ethic and dedication to these two projects says all that need to be said about the hard working people of Western Pa. I would like to also thank J & J Architects for an outstanding job on the entire project and developing my vision both inside and outside of the building and Carrie for the development of the color schemes, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere we all at Technologies desire. The product is both unique and fantastic and the actual product and colors is great to see. I am already thinking about way to open the space up more now that I have seen the actual product. What I don't want is the place to look like a typical office space with really modern furniture. I will be meeting with the with the construction manager and the executive team of the architects to figure out the possibilities and costs. Finally, I need a favor from my workers. Please go back and button down the site and then quickly join you significant others for a little longer weekend, yes full pay for today and immediately they started cheering and yelling Mike, Mike, Mike. I motioned for quiet and said I would be available in 15 minutes for questions from the media. I handed the microphone to Bruce and joined the workers. That was a lot of fun as I really liked these guys. Back to reality it was the media and damn there was that group from ABC and all the local media. On the way to the media event I took off my tie and picked up the microphone and said Patty, what's on your mind? Well Mike, why take a chance on a new product? Patty, while it is new, we did see a mock-up and Herman Miller is an innovative company, having invented the "Open Office" concept and is a very large company and based in Michigan. That is important to me as is keeping technology work in the country. I didn't think we were taking that big of a chance. The next question was from ABC and he asked why are you so focused on American product and workers? I was instantly furious. I took a big breath and said, we have a tremendous trade imbalance and need to start to pay attention to that. As for workers, we have working for us, one of the most diverse workforce in the country. They are part of a very profitable company and are well paid. We could farm out things to other countries and make more money, but why? We are about making money and if we are not breaking even, then things would be up for discussion. As a follow up, how are things with your NASA project, we saw you at the launch yesterday? Yes, the launch and the two days at the Cape were educational and very productive. After this event we could be finalizing a smaller project with them and that is one of the reasons the Director is here. Every hand went up and I said, please understand we need to work out some details and a location and employees need to be worked out. We will have additional information around 4:00 today. Until then I'll have no comment. Again from ABC, so Mike, how involved are you personally in all this? I smiled, bit my tongue and said, my team and I are totally involved. The final decision is up to me in every case. Again it was back to Patty and she asked Mike, it seems like the Union people think you walk on water, how did that happen? Patty, the simple answer is that we need each other. I wanted a smooth, quick and quality project and they needed work. Ok that's fair but how does that square with your hero, Andrew Carnegie? Patty, he was a man of his times and look at what he has given back. It was 97 years ago that the Carnegie Museum and Library were established in Oakland. Then what about the things in New York. The Union movement was just becoming what it would become and yes, the start was ugly and deadly. My union support is based on need and their performance. If every project goes this smoothly, within budget and this fast I'll always use Union workers. Then I was asked Mike, is there another project? At this time and with this economy, I don't see that happening. Then the usual question, how you doing this from Virginia? I sampled and said asked and answered many times, my team and a jet and a years worth of credits when I step on campus. Then I was asked about the upcoming high school season. The local guy said you have a lot of people back and some new additions. Have you had anything to do with those new people. I laughed and said, we have one new significant player, I hired Major James Messer, an astronaut, to work for both my companies as PR Director, I did not know he even had a kid and it was weeks before I knew he was an outstanding athlete. His parents bought a house 4 houses away from me and we have become very close. That's not recruiting, I made a great hire and other things happened. As for the team, we are all working very hard individually to make the season very successful. Then I said, I would like the Director of NASA, Admiral Truly to say a few words and possibly answer a couple of questions. The Admiral said Mike, thanks for including NASA. We are more that pleased with our existing relationship with MJS Technologies, Mike, Sr. Made a lot of promises and it wasn't until the other day that we got to meet the dynamic force behind all that. Technologies has over performed and the results are, as we speak, very evident in orbit right now. Two key developments in flight operations are being tested as we speak, all developed here. I'm hoping to convince MJ over lunch that we should work together on another project. When I heard him refer to me as MJ, I thought I'll never be called Mike again. He answered a couple of questions, handed the microphone back to me and I simply said, thank you and have a great day. I asked the Admiral what his schedule was like? He replied, he had nothing in DC tonight. I asked, Lunch at South Hills Country Club or Oakmont. He said, well South Hills as it is closer to where we landed, but later in the summer golf at Oakmont would be appreciated. I said deal and found Jack and filled him in and then included, dad, Dillon and Major Jim. I called the club and reserved a room and gave the manager a heads up. I was told that the room I requested was unavailable but that as it was nice he would set us up on the patio and guarantee privacy. I said, thanks and I appreciate the effort. On the was to the car I saw Patty and said hears a hint, thinks robotics and something bid, red and far away. She smiled and said damn, I never expected anything like that from you. Once we were all situated on the patio and drinks were ordered, I said Admiral, thanks for the kind comments earlier, they are appreciated. I would like very much to work on another program with you, however there are problems. The largest of which is where to put this project. Your last project being housed in the new building moved Enterprises out and resulted in the second building being built. We are 10 to 12 months away from that building being done and it will be 7 months before your current people can move into the building you saw today. Then Jack has a division to move into the space your program will vacate. The reality is that we will have to find space for this project. Admiral, we can do this if we have 90 days to get set up, can you accept that? The Admiral was quiet for a minute thinking and said MJ you are better than that, I understand you have football, so test that team you brag about and make it happen in 60 days. So what happens if we miss that deadline? MJ, you won't and we both know it, so we have a deal? I took a big breath and said so this is a 3 year project and we need to be up in running mid September? The Admiral laughed and said well you added two week to this, but yes it's a deal and the project runs 4 years and the contracts as agreed to by tour dad. I said thanks and we will not disappoint. At this point lunch became very relaxed and enjoyable. As we were leaving I asked the Admiral if he was serious about a round of golf at Oakmont. He smiled and said absolutely and if it possible, I would like to bring my sons. I said well the club rule is a member with every group but let me know how many and I'll put it together. We shook hands and Jack took him to the airport. I asked, Mason, Major Jim, Kyle and dad to stay. Drinks were ordered and I was staying with Arnold Palmers (half tea and half lemonade) the others ordered adult beverages. We spent an hour developing a battle plan and Jim started on a Press Release. I called Hillgrove and briefed him on the situation and asked for a meeting Monday. We scheduled that and he said that he added the kid I requested and I laughed and said well both of better get to work. Back with the team, Jim had the Press Release ready and I said just call and read it to the editor, he laughed and said that's why God invented emails, it's already sent. I laughed and asked why bother me with looking at it? Just then my phone rang and he said because of that. I looked at it and let it go to voicemail and said I'll let the Mayor stew some. Jim asked, why do you have to always poke the bear? I said because I can and he needs to be more progressive. Jim said that's a silly fight but fight if you must. I thanked everyone and asked that we meet at 11:00 on Monday. As we walked to the cars, Jim asked if I was ready? I laughed and said I better be as I haven't had a drink all day. Jim laughed saying there is a price for everything. At home I called Jim and it went to voicemail and I figured he was out on a date so I called Ray and he answered and I asked what he was up to and he said well since you didn't seem to want to do anything, I made plans with some of the guys. I said well have fun and be smart. Well, I had engineered an evening of studying so, stop feeling sorry fo your self and study. Which is exactly what I did and I damn well had the material down pat and memorized. It actually felt good to have had to study something. I got up took a shower and jumped into bed and even after a long and tiring day sleep did not come easily. It had been weeks since I had even seen Carrie but there she was living in my head again. Fuck she was hot and damn I sprung a woodie thinking about her. I tried to move her aside by thinking about Beth and damn that was no contest. Just then my thoughts turned to Jack that hot, sexy jet jockey and I was as hard as ever and I started to rub one off and fell asleep with cum all over my stomach.
