Chapter 11 A day of rain.

Dad was busy calling the boy's parents telling them that both boys were safe and would be staying with us until it was safe to return home.

We all watched the news for a while seeing the lower west side of Manila under water. The harbor and small boat harbor were made to keep all the boats safe and our fleet of sports fishing boats were docked in a sheltered area.

 

I was looking out the window seeing the wind blowing shit all over the place. A few of the roofs down the road were now ripped off and the locals were busy putting tarps up to stop the rain getting into their houses.

 

Then after what was about 6 hours of non-stop rain and wind the storm blew over. Imelda and her husband went home and Rizal had to go and help out picking up shit that blew all over the back garden.

"Here you go Conner." Armando said as he placed a few large branches onto the wheelbarrow. In an hour we had the back yard cleaned up and had all the shit that was blown into the back yard placed out the front.

 

The local cleanup crews would come and clean up the downed trees and pick up all the shit that was blown down the streets.

 

The pool had to be cleaned and there in the pool was a deck chair and a few wheelbarrow loads of leaves floating on the water and some below the pool.

 

"Can we go in and get the leaves out of the pool." Hudson asked. Armando was now naked and had the pool skimmer at the ready.

 

The sun was now trying to come out from the clouds and soon we had sunshine again. Dad came in seeing the pool filled with leaves and asked us to try and clean it out.

"I won, I won." Hudson yelled as he threw some shit out of the pool. "Ok Hudson, you get the money." Frank yelled as he sorted out some downed trees in Rizal's back yard.

 

We did have some fruit trees damaged and I was busy picking the damaged fruit and placing them into the wheel barrow.

 

"It sucks that the fruit was blown off Conner." Dad said as he held a huge sack and began to fill it with the bananas that were strewn all over the back yard.

 

"We will have to start again." I said as we filled the barrow and took it out the front and dumped it onto the pile of junk there on the side walk.

 

It took most of the day to fix up the back and front yard. I watched as Rizal and Jeffery placed branches and damaged fruit trees on the front lawn.

 

I waved to the both of them and said we would be having dinner soon. The power had just returned and now we could have the air –con blowing cool air across the house.

Rizal's dad and Frank went to see how the fishing boats handled the storm. "Looks like we have just one boat to fix." Frank said as he checked the mooring lines that connected the ships to the small boat harbor.

 

Rizal's dad had a crew of boat builders coming over to fix one boat that got loose in the storm and it has to have a new canvas covering replaced and a small hole in the starboard side of the ship fixed up.

 

"Right, I will leave you to the repairs sir and go and head home." Frank grinned as he signed the paperwork for the repairs.

 

A lot of tourists were now coming out of their hotels looking for something to do. We had two boats out that day and a record fish was caught just out of the Manila harbor.

 

Newspapers soon heard about the record and Rizal's dad had his face plastered in the local newspaper.
